Stormborne Wovens – Gingerbread Forest

How lovely fortune works, getting to host two Stormborne pieces so relatively close to each other.

Gingerbread Forest. Colorwise this is a deep, sultry, monochrome that wasn’t really monochrome, color way. The colors have a depth behind them that makes the wrap so much heavier and richer than just black/white/grey – there is extra complexity at play that makes the wrap beautiful to photograph. The pattern weave too – peeks and hides and creates greater drama in the wrap than might be visible in a flat shot. Forest is just simply a really stunning twist on monochrome.

_MG_9752Wear wise. Georgia ringspun cotton is pretty much one of my most favourite wrap fibres. With a slight memory foam feel almost, it always seems to remain soft and supple from first wear without being overly bulky, slippy, or saggy. Combined with the hand painted silk/linen weft, this was a very supportive, cushy, slightly grippy wrap. It had enough texture to remain sticky, but wraps easily, no fighting for knots or passes. It was light and floppy with enough drape that I didn’t bemoan continual wrap jobs at it’s slightly longer than my normal length.  It’s a wrap that could easily and comfortably suit a wearer from newborn to pre K.

Weaving wise. This was the first long fringe piece I’ve wrapped with, having only wrapped with shorties before. I’m still unsure where I lay on needing fringe on my life, but in this piece it created that extra hit of art and mood and seemed so fitting of the colorway. I did find it hard to photograph at this length, and I’m keenly watching to see how the other hosts photograph and capture the fringe so I’m better prepared for a fringed beauty in the future.

Who will like this wrap. Lovers of monochrome. Fringe coveters. Those who enjoy those _MG_9855wraps that perfectly hit the line between thick and thin. Supportive, mouldable wrap job searchers.

Who might pass on this wrap. Bright/jewel tone fans – not for you. Uber thin wrap aficionados, not your calling – or even those on the other side wanting mega cush and marshmallow, not yours either.
